NEW MAGNIFICAT

Hi there – over the last few weeks I’ve been reading over the early chapters of the Gospels in preparation for Advent. It occurred to me that maybe Mary isn’t quite so ‘meek and mild’ as many of us have been conditioned to. I mean, in Luke 1, when told she was going to bear a child, she didn’t say ‘yes’ straight away. Her first response was along the lines of “how?” – a pretty pragmatic and understandable response.

So, I’ve had a crack at re-imagining the Magnfiicat – those wonderful words that Mary used to respond to the greeting she received from Elizabeth and which have echoes of some of the later psalms. I know there are loads of beautiful settings already but somehow I felt the need to imagine how it might have been if Mary was a bit more of an effervescent young person. Hope you might enjoy! (Would have been better with a female voice but just decided to record it in a hurry.) Looking forward to giving it a runout with Tongues of Fire.
